3 Worst ‘Healthy’ Foods for Diabetes

Marketers have their voodoo (but effective if I must say) way into enchanting us with whatever it is that they are selling. They can turn a crappy product that you don’t have the intention to buy in a million years into a bestselling item of all times.

That’s the power of marketing.

And don’t think that you’ve never been duped before because I’m willing to bet that all of us have been.

The beauty of advertisement is that it can be put to use in almost everything—including food.

Today, we’re counting down the top 3 worst ‘healthy’ foods for diabetes. You see, some foods are marketed as ‘healthy’ even though they are not (quite).

Side note: Of course, people with diabetes are allowed to consume all of the products mention below. As always, it is always about portion control.

#1. Fruit Juice

Also known as liquid sugar, fruit juice was considered as a ‘healthy drink’ for many years until recent research overturns this longtime belief.

One cup of 100% Oasis Apple juice contains a whopping 24 grams of sugar.

I think you can spot the problem.

#2. Vegan Food Products

Veganism has this glowing ‘healthy’ halo. I guess the reason is the abundance of fruits and vegetables normally found in this type of diet.

However, beware that not all vegan products are good for the body. Vegan food is not the equivalent of low fat, calories, and sugar. The item can be certified as vegan and be dumped in an agave syrup mixture.

#3. Margarine

The battle between margarine and butter is still ongoing, and science-minded experts have yet to find a definite answer to this question.

Fact: Both margarine and butter contain the same amount of calories and fat. The difference lies in the type of fat. If we consider that saturated fat is bad for the heart (again, not all experts agree on this), then margarine is the better of the two.

However, people with diabetes are advised to consume a moderate amount of margarine since too much fat of any kind can cause damage to the body (e.g. heart disease, weight gain).

Slather margarine lightly on your toast!

*Note: I’m speaking about non-hydrogenated margarine. Hydrogenated margarine is a big NO-NO.
