With almost 30 million people living with diabetes (in the United States alone, by the way), we are currently facing a serious epidemic.

There is an insulin gene that is expressed in the brain just like there is one in the pancreas. Insulin plays such an important role in the brain that many medical professionals are saying that controlling blood glucose may actually reduce progression to Alzheimer’s Disease.
Impaired Insulin Functioning Linked to Alzheimer’s Disease
One study discovered that type 2 diabetes and impaired insulin functioning were significantly more likely to occur in patients with Alzheimer’s Disease than those who did not have the disease.
In fact, those with type 2 diabetes have a 50 to 65 percent increased risk of suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease.
Don’t panic quite yet, though. Despite that this correlation is overwhelmingly supported by research, it does not necessarily mean that type 2 diabetes causes Alzheimer’s Disease.
