Five Spices to Improve Your Diabetes

Did you know that commonly found spices can help block the inflammation that drives diabetes? Well research out of the University of Georgia suggests that many spices contain antioxidant compounds known as polyphenols. Early finding indicate that the liberal use of some spices provide big payoffs when it comes to improving your health and helping you get the upper hand with your diabetes.

Turmeric is an excellent spice renowned  for its ability to control high blood sugar.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek is a herb renowned for improving hypoglycemic activity,  glucose tolerance, and lower blood sugar levels. In a 2009 study published in the International Journal for Vitamin and Nutrition Research, researchers concluded that there is a positive effect of fenugreek seeds on blood glucose and lipid profiles in Type 2 diabetic patients.

Ginger

Ginger is load with anti-diabetic, hypolipidemic and anti-oxidative properties that are beneficial in controlling blood sugar levels. The delicious spice can also improve insulin sensitivity, reduce oxidation and improve cholesterol levels. It may even contribute to weight loss.

A 2014 study published in the Complementary Therapies in Medicine journal noted  that daily consumption of three 1-gram capsules of ginger powder for 8 weeks proved useful for patients with Type 2 diabetes.

A 2013 study published in the Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine journal praised the important role of curcumin, a key component in turmeric,  regarding the prevention and treatment of diabetes and associated disorders.A 2014 study published in the Journal of Diabetes & Metabolic Disorders confirmed those findings when the beneficial role of turmeric in controlling kidney-related complications caused by diabetes was related.

Garlic

Thanks to its anti-diabetic and hypolipidemic properties garlic  helps create healthy blood sugar levels in diabetic people. It also contains sulfur compounds that protect you from oxidative damage and high cholesterol.

According to the Pakistan Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, a study published in 2011 notes that garlic supplementation combined  with a standard anti-diabetic agent  provided better blood sugar control in Type 2 diabetics. And a 2014 study published in the Journal of Diabetes & Metabolic Disorders maintains that garlic can be useful in the treatment and diabetes and related cardiovascular diseases.
