Does Your Child with Diabetes Miss Having Sweets? Try These Snacks Instead!

Having a child with diabetes can be difficult. I mean, you can’t exactly control the snacks that are served in the classroom. Between the cupcakes for student’s birthdays and the pizza in the cafeteria, it can make things challenging.

If your child is missing out on all the goodies at school, here are four snacks that will satisfy their sweet tooth. You can even pack these for classroom parties to share healthier options with other students and teachers. (Just be sure to ask about their food allergy policy!)

Your little one no longer needs to feel left out; there are tons of nutritious and diabetic-friendly options available.

#1: Chocolate Drizzled Popcorn

Melt the chocolate and drizzle over the popcorn. You now have yourself a delicious snack or dessert option that both kids and adults will love.

#2: Chocolate Covered Almonds

Take some almond, dip them in 70% or darker unsweetened dark chocolate, and refrigerate for a couple of minutes. Your kids can now enjoy these when their sweet tooth kicks in, and you don’t have to feel guilty about it!

#3: Homemade Frozen Yogurt

The great news is that you can make your own with just a handful of ingredients. All you need is some full-fat coconut milk, pure vanilla extract, unsweetened raw cocoa powder, and some mint extract for a minty flavor. Blend everything together in a food processor and freeze for about 3 hours. Enjoy once frozen!

#4: Granola-Dipped Bananas

You can easily turn a plain old banana into a yummy treat by dipping the banana into some unsweetened Greek yogurt, followed by homemade granola. Freeze for a couple of hours, and you have a delicious and healthy snack to keep your kids happy and full until dinner.

Just because your child has diabetes doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy a sweet treat now and then! It just means you have to come up with creative ways to make the recipes a little healthier.
