Diabetes Management: Revving Up Your Metabolism

When you have a combination of problems, such as obesity, hypertension, and high cholesterol levels, you may be suffering from metabolic syndrome. This condition is becoming more and more common among the population, for both diabetics and nondiabetics. It also increases the average person’s risk of developing diabetes.

Many people can improve their metabolism by taking control of their weight and cardiovascular health. However, it is a life-changing process. Whether you are trying to manage metabolic syndrome or lose weight, there are a few things you can do at home to boost your metabolism.

Increase the Intensity Of Workouts

Research has shown that if you work out more intensely, you’ll use more oxygen, which forces the body to create more mitochondria. These powerhouses convert oxygen and glucose into energy for the body’s cells. If you aren’t up to a really strenuous workout, try varying your current exercises by ramping up the intensity for intervals of 30 seconds.

Build Muscle

Almost everyone knows that muscle burns more energy compared to body fat. Add weight training to your current exercise plan to help build up that muscle tissue. Even while you are resting, this tissue will use more energy, therefore increasing your metabolism.

Eat Breakfast In the Morning

Kickstart your metabolism in the morning with a healthy breakfast. This will also help keep you from being ravenous later in the evening as the body starts craving calories you missed during the daytime. Make sure to add something that takes a while to digest to your breakfast, such as protein or complex carbs to provide fuel throughout the day.

Switch To Green Tea

Green tea really does help encourage the body to burn more calories by improving fat oxidation and thermogenesis. You won’t lose a lot of weight, but a little adds up over time. Drinking up to five cups of green tea per day can cause you to burn up to 90 calories more per day on average. Plus, you’ll also be gaining the benefits of the antioxidants within the tea.
