Type 2 diabetes is a major epidemic in the United States and Australia. It is also spreading all over the world as sugary packaged foods become the primary source of nutrition for millions of people.

Almost 30 million people have diabetes in the United States!

Needless to say, it’s time that we start finding approachable and affordable solutions that can be done from home.

The problem?

Basic education about ways to control diabetes is lacking. Most people think that to better control blood glucose and the damaging effects of diabetes, you must abandon your previous life and become a vegetarian marathon runner (or something extreme like that).

But that’s not true! A few tweaks made each day, alongside a gentle exercise routine, can be quite powerful. This is exactly the reason why yoga is now so popular for many diabetics.

Yoga Helps Control Diabetes

The very thought of exercise makes most people uncomfortable. Flash backs of physical education class can clutter the memory, leading us to believe that push ups and sit ups are the only way to fitness.




Luckily, that is not true.

Exercise is basically anything that gets your body moving and your blood flowing at a slightly higher rate than what it is normal. A gentle yoga practice can give you all the same benefits as exercise without all the discomfort.

This trend isn’t new. Researchers have been examining yoga as a form of treatment for diabetes for the past few years. They found that diabetes helps lower blood glucose, cholesterol, and body weight (all major markers of diabetes).

Yoga also improves circulation, flexibility in the muscles and ligaments, mood, and the ability to sleep.

So, do yourself a favor and start practicing a little bit of yoga. You don’t need to stand on your head or hold your foot behind your back. You just need to have a little bit of guided movement to wake your body up.

Plus, the benefits are hard to ignore!
