Afternoon Cravings? Try These 3 Delicious Diabetic Friendly Snacks.

Afternoons always seem to be when those hunger pangs kick in. It’s been a couple of hours since you had lunch, and you still have a few hours before dinner so you’re ready for something else to eat.

Unfortunately, snack time usually comes with some unhealthy temptations. Whether this is the candy bowl at work or the vending machine at school, there are far too many unhealthy options.

If you’re someone who always needs their afternoon fix, I’m about to share three mouthwatering diabetic friendly snack options to satisfy your sweet tooth and keep you full until dinner.

Why can’t we have our snack and eat it too? Now, we can.

Greek Yogurt Parfait

Yogurt tends to be super high in sugar; some brands contain even more sugar than a candy shutterstock_557593426bar! While there are some unhealthy options, it doesn’t mean you can’t make your own diabetic friendly version. Here’s what you need.

  • 1 cup of unsweetened Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup raspberries
  • ¼ cup rolled oats
  • 2 Tbsp. unsweetened shredded coconut

Method: Simply add the yogurt to the bottom of a bowl or an on-the-go container and top with the delicious toppings. Store in the fridge so you have something sweet and tasty ready for when those afternoon cravings kick in.

3-Ingredient Trail Mix

Trail mix is an all-time favorite. Did you ever have those trail mix packs in your lunch box shutterstock_559671109growing up, you know that ones with way more M&M’s than nuts? Now you can reinvent a traditional snack into something healthy, and satisfying.

  • 1 handful of almonds
  • 1 handful of walnuts
  • 1 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa nibs

Method: Toss everything in a resealable bag, and carry it on the road with you. This quick and easy trail mix makes for the perfect snack when your energy is low, and you’re ready to grab something you know you shouldn’t have.

Hummus with Veggies

Hummus makes a wonderful afternoon treat as it packs in a nice dose of plant-based protein and fiber keeping you full until dinner time. Use as a dip for veggies, and you have yourself a perfectly balanced snack.

  • 1 can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • ¼ cup tahini
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • 2 cloves of garlic

Method: Add all ingredients to a food processor and blend until smooth. Enjoy with sliced veggies.

Next time those cravings kick in, don’t fear them. Instead, fuel your body with the food it needs, and you may be surprised to see those cravings slowly start to fade one healthy food choice at a time.
