6 Reasons Why Diabetes Sucks

No matter how great life seems to appear for people with diabetes, it still can’t be as good as not having the disease. I mean, no one wants to have diabetes, right?

For folks who are lucky enough to be diabetes-free but don’t realize it (like me!), here are 6 reminders why diabetes suck and why we should feel empathy for those who do.

(Please note that some of the reasons listed here are for comedy sake. We all need a little something fun to lighten our life!)

#1. You can’t drink to get drunk—anymore.

If you’re in college, not being able to get drunk just plain sucks (not that it is recommended to ever get drunk in the first place). Instead of worrying about the hangover you’ll get the next morning, you’re fretting over your blood sugar and whether you’ll be transported to the hospital for cause of hypoglycemia, coma, or worst—death.

Not counting the beating you’ll get from your parents.

#2. You’re a diabetes expert.

People without diabetes tend to assume that those who do know all the answers about the disease. Since they are suffering from it, their knowledge on the matter should be extensive right?

Wrong.

Diabetes is a very complex health threat, so please forgive them for not having the answers to your copious amount of questions.

This brings me to my next item on the list.

#3. You are asked stupid questions all the time.

It is one of those times when people with diabetes realize how uneducated people can be (which is fine since diabetes is no simple matter). But they also come to realize how annoying it is to have to deal with them, and how little patience they have.

(Guilty!)

#4. Another reason to lose weight.

Weight is a huge problem in today’s society, and shedding off the extra pounds is not as easy as it might sound. We are all aware how excess fat can take a toll on the health, and having diabetes just mean one more reason to really work hard on getting rid of it.

Yay. * sarcastic tone *

#5. For the fellas: You can’t eat 10 ramen burgers in one go.

Don’t even think about participating in one of those eating competitions.

A ‘no’ is a ‘no.’

#6. For the gals: You can’t eat 10 red velvet cupcakes in one go.

Reality is a sly one.
