4 Dumb AF Questions about Diabetes

Who says there is no such thing as a stupid question?

Stupid people. (JK!)

Some people might put diabetes on the same pedestal as common cold, but the truth of the matter is that this chronic, metabolic disease is very complex. After all, there is a reason why we have yet to find a cure, and countless of brilliant minds are working on it. Personally, I don’t believe there are dumb questions about diabetes. I can’t say the same for other things in life though.

We talk about some heavy stuff at Diabetics Weekly, so I thought we can lighten things up by compiling a list of the stupidest questions about diabetes I’ve heard—for comedy sake.

Because like it or not, diabetes is a reality, and we might as well tackle this health treat with a smile!

#1. Does it hurt to prick yourself?

Comeback: Do you like being stung by a mosquito or a bee?

(Okay, I’m a frail and pain-stricken gal. Even a Nerf bullet hurts me—really.)

#2. Did you know that you can cure diabetes with diet and exercise?

If it was that easy, why do we have a diabetes epidemic crisis on our hand?

Truth: A well-balanced diet combined with regular physical activity helps to control diabetes and keep blood glucose within optimal range. These two factors may help to reduce the dosage of insulin and pills. Even if you manage to eliminate pharmacological treatments for diabetes, you still won’t be considered as cured though. The proper term is “in remission.” In other words, diabetes can come back to haunt you at any time.

Of course, we’re talking about type 2 diabetes (T2D) here. (I hope you guys knew that…)

#3. Why don’t you try cutting out the carb from your diet?

Uhm, do you wish to see me die?

Carb is the main fuel for the brain. No carb = total brain shutdown.

Understand?

#4. Be grateful it’s not cancer.

I got this off the Web.

Do people really say that?

Comeback: …

I would be utterly speechless if someone said that to me.
