4 Diabetic Ways to Enjoy Chocolate

Have you heard the exciting news that’s been going around in the wellness world?

Chocolate has been deemed a superfood!

OK, so not all chocolate counts here. You certainly can’t go pick up any old chocolate bar and say you’re eating a healthy snack.

With that being said, if you enjoy the right types of chocolate in the right portion sizes, you may be doing your health a favor.

Chocolate holds impressive benefits, thanks to its flavanol content, and has been shown to boost overall mood, increase sex drive, and might even help protect our heart.

So how do we make sure we are savoring chocolate in a way that benefits us as opposed to harming our health?

Here’s how!

#1 Healthy Cocoa “Milkshake”

A perfect way to get some raw cocoa into your diet is through a smoothie. All you need is unsweetened almond or coconut milk, a tablespoon of unsweetened raw cocoa powder, and half of a frozen banana. You can even add unsweetened Greek yogurt for extra protein.

Blend it all together and enjoy your nutritionist-approved “chocolate milkshake.”

#2 Chocolate Covered Almonds

Chocolate covered almonds are a delicious way to fuel your body with two superfoods in one-go.

All you need to do is melt 70% or darker unsweetened dark chocolate with a tablespoon of coconut oil and dip the almonds into the chocolate mix. Refrigerate to set.

#3 With Some Fresh Fruit

Are you craving a chocolate bar? You may be able to devour it without the guilt. Just be sure to stick to 70% or darker dark chocolate with no added sugar and pair it with fruits.

#4 Mixed in with Homemade Trail Mix

Trail mix just isn’t the same without chocolate, right? Again, purchase the 70% dark chocolate bar and break it up into tiny pieces.

(Suggested Serving)

While dark unsweetened chocolate may not taste the same as those sugary candy bars you see at the checkout isle at the grocery store, you will likely grow to enjoy the flavor.
