4 Diabetic Reasons to Follow a Clean Eating Diet

Chances are you have heard the word “clean eating” tossed around. This new way of eating has hit the health and fitness world at full speed, and many health experts are encouraging clients to consume “clean” foods.

While clean eating can help just about anyone trying to improve their health, it can do even more if you have diabetes!

Here’s why.

#1 You Ditch the Processed Foods

A large part of eating clean means you ditch the processed and fake foods. This includes many packaged foods items that are often filled with refined carbs and added sugar.

When you remove these items from your diet, you may be surprised at how much easier it may be to control blood sugar levels.

#2 You Focus on Whole Foods

Foods in their whole state is what a clean eating diet is all about. Now that you have eliminated the processed junk food, it’s time to clean things up with whole and nourishing foods.

They include foods like fruits, vegetables, and lean protein sources (e.g. poultry, fish).

It’s more about foods without a food label and less about foods with a huge list of added ingredients.

#3 You Amp Up Your Superfood Intake

I’m always talking about superfoods and how amazing they are for your health. I like to tell people that if they try to add one superfood to each meal, they are making small steps towards a healthier body each day.

When you eat clean, you will find that you naturally add some extra superfoods to your diet. Whether this is dark leafy greens or flax and chia seeds added to smoothies.

The more superfoods, the better!

#4 You Limit Sugar

There’s not much room for added sugar on a clean eating diet which goes hand in hand with a healthy diabetes-friendly diet.

When you eat clean, it’s much more about focusing on whole foods and not stressing about calories that generally go along with a diet.

This is because you will naturally be reducing sugar and damaged fats and consuming foods that nourish and fuel your body instead of foods that strip your body of the things it needs to thrive.

A clean diet is quite simple to adopt, and you can gradually start adding clean foods to your diet without jumping in head first.

Before you know it, you will be eating clean and feeling fabulous!
